‘Stranger Things’ Sees Top of TV Time ‘Binge’ and ‘Shows on the Rise’ Charts

Netflix series “Stranger Things” topped both the “Binge Report” and “Shows on the Rise” TV Time charts for the week ended July 7.

TV Time is a free TV viewership tracking app that tracks consumers’ viewing habits worldwide and is visited by more than 1 million consumers every day, according to the company.

Season three of “Stranger Things” debuted on Netflix July 4 and was streamed by 40 million accounts — more than any other series or film in its first four days — and 18.2 million had finished the entire season, according to a July 8 tweet from the SVOD service. Set in the 1980s, the series follows four friends who find a girl with telekinetic powers, an alternate dimension and monsters coming out of it.

After a long run at No. 1, “Lucifer,” a canceled Fox series rescued by Netflix about Lucifer’s escapades in Los Angeles, fell to No. 2 on the “Binge” chart.

The weekly “Binge Report” ranks shows with the most binge sessions. A binge session is when four or more episodes of a show are watched and tracked in the app in a given day.

Among the other “Shows on the Rise” was Netflix’s “Free Rein,” about a teenager who bonds with a horse on an English island (the third season of which premiered on the service July 6), at No. 3 and “Young Justice,” from Warner’s DC Universe streaming service, which came in at No. 6.

The “Shows on the Rise” chart is calculated by determining the week-over-week growth in episodes watched for a given program.
