With the 2022 domestic box office off to a slow start, 2021 holdover Spider-Man: No Way Home continues its reign atop the North American ticket sales.
The Sony Pictures theatrical juggernaut is set to cement its sixth weekend at No. 1 with around $11 million in projected revenue — a streak not seen since James Cameron’s Avatar topped the box office for seven weekends in 2009. Warner Bros. Pictures’ Tenet remained No. 1 at the domestic box for five weekends in the 2020 COVID-ravaged period. No Way Home needs less than $25 million to surpass Avatar in all-time domestic ticket sales. The movie just passed Disney/Marvel’s Black Panther.
Other holdovers include Paramount Pictures’ Scream with a projected $7.5 million, topping $62 million since its debut three weeks ago, and Universal Pictures’ Sing 2, with $4.6 million. The studio’s Redeeming Love and The 355 are projected to generate an additional $1.6 million and $1.2 million in ticket sales, respectively.
In between those two movies is Disney/20th Century Studios’ The King’s Man with $1.5 million, or almost $34 million since its big screen debut.
