March 6, 2023
The Disney+ “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian” returned to the top spot on Parrot Analytics’ digital originals U.S. rankings the week ended March 3. The March 1 debut of the show’s third season gave the series a 35.7% rise in demand expressions, the proprietary metric Parrot uses to gauge a show’s popularity, giving it 64.2 times the demand of an average series. “The Mandalorian” was No. 3 on Parrot’s list of overall TV shows.
Netflix’s supernatural thriller “Stranger Things” dropped to No. 2 on the digital originals chart with 62.2 times average demand. The series had a 5.1% rise in demand expressions during a week that included the announcement of a stage play prequel focused on a young Hopper in the 1950s. “Stranger Things” was No. 4 on Parrot’s list of overall TV shows.
Up two spots to No. 3 on the digital originals chart was the Apple TV+ comedy “Ted Lasso,” which had a 58.2% rise in demand expressions as fans prepare for the March 15 premiere of its third and potentially final season. It had 49.7 times average demand.
Down a spot to No. 4 on the digital originals chart was “Star Trek: Picard,” which is now a few episodes into its third season and getting positive word of mouth for its reunion of the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” cast. However, demand expressions were down 5.8%, giving it 42.2 times average demand.
No. 5 was Netflix’s “Outer Banks,” making the biggest jump up the chart for the week as it was No. 28 the week before. The drama about teens searching for lost treasure in North Carolina premiered its third season Feb. 23, and grabbed 36.5 times average demand after a 82.7% rise in demand expressions.
A “digital original” is Parrot’s term for a multi-episode series in which the most recent season was first made available on a streaming platform such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu or Disney+.
The No. 1 overall TV series in terms of online demand was “South Park” with 101.8 times average demand.

Media Play News has teamed with Parrot Analytics to provide readers with a weekly top 10 of the most popular digital original TV series in the United States, based on the firm’s proprietary metric called Demand Expressions, which measures demand for TV content in a given market through a wide variety of data sources, including video streaming, social media activity, photo sharing, blogging, commenting on fan and critic rating platforms, and downloading and streaming via peer-to-peer protocols and file sharing sites. Results are expressed as a comparison with the average demand for a TV show of any kind in the market.
