Reelgood: Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu Top Horror Content Selections in 2023

Heading into Halloween, subscription streaming video services are in overdrive offering horror-themed movies and TV shows. New data from Reelgood finds that Netflix, Prime Video and Hulu lead the field in their respective catalogs of scary movies and TV shows available for streaming.

Reelgood, which tracks real-time data from 5 million users in the United States across SVOD and AVOD services for original and acquired streaming programs and movies, found that, as far as movies, Prime Video led all streamers with more than 1,000 horror-themed features, followed by AMC+ with 631 titles, and Shudder with 418 movies through Oct. 10.

Among episodic programming, Netflix led all streamers with 59 horror-themed TV shows, followed by Prime Video with 46 titles and Hulu with 40.

 

The top-streamed horror-themed TV shows in 2023 thus far include “Yellowjackets” on Showtime and Fubo, followed by “From” and “Black Mirror” on Fubo and Netflix, respectively. Netflix had the most TV titles with “1899,” “The Walking Dead,” and “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities” also among the top 10 streamed series of 2023.

The top-streamed movies included The Menu on Max and Fubo, The Pale Blue Eye on Netflix and No One Will Save You on Hulu. Prime Video had the most horror-themed movies with Nope, Renfield, M3GAN, and Knock at the Cabin.
