‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ Tops Redbox Disc Rentals; ‘Old Way’ Still No. 1 on Digital Chart

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish took over the No. 1 spot on the Redbox disc rental chart the week ended March 5.

The sequel from DreamWorks Animation, which was released on disc Feb. 28, finds the feline swashbuckler seeking a magical wishing star in order to restore his nine lives. It was No. 7 on the Redbox On Demand chart, which tracks digital VOD and sellthrough transactions.

The previous week’s top title on both the disc and digital charts, Lionsgate’s Nicolas Cage Western The Old Way, remained No. 1 on the Redbox On Demand chart, but dropped to No. 3 on the disc rental chart, which tracks DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals at Redbox’s thousands of red kiosks.

The week’s No. 2 disc rental was Paramount’s Devotion, a historical drama about one of the first black aviators who flew during the Korean War. It was No. 9 on the digital chart.

No. 4 on both charts was Sony Pictures’ Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody, a biopic about the late singer.

The No. 5 disc rental was Disney-owned Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The film finds the now public nation of Wakanda protecting itself from a hidden underwater kingdom in the wake of King T’Challa’s death.

Down three spots to No. 5 on the Redbox On Demand chart was Universal’s Knock at the Cabin, the new M. Night Shyamalan thriller about a vacationing family who are taken hostage and forced to make a sacrifice to avert the apocalypse.
