Paramount’s ‘Fatman,’ ‘Love and Monsters’ Take Over Redbox Charts

A pair of films distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment took over the No. 1 spots on Redbox’s disc rental chart and the Redbox On Demand chart the week ended Dec. 13.

The disc chart, which tracks DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals at the company’s more than 40,000 red kiosks, saw Paramount’s Fatman take over the top spot. While the disc won’t be widely released until Jan. 26, Redbox has it early. The movie stars Mel Gibson as an action-oriented Santa who must fight for his life when a disgruntled kid sends a hitman after him.

Fatman was No. 2 on the Redbox On Demand chart, which tracks digital rental transactions, with Paramount’s Love and Monsters taking the top spot there. Love and Monsters stars Dylan O’Brien as a man trying to reconnect with his high school girlfriend (Jessica Henwick) in a dystopian future where giant monsters have overtaken the Earth.

Another Paramount title, the comedy Buddy Games, was No. 4 on both charts. Paramount also had two more films on the On Demand chart: The Vanished, about a couple searching for the missing daughter, at No. 7, and the newly released Wander, a thriller about a mentally unstable man who gets caught up in a murder conspiracy, at No. 8.

Lionsgate’s Unhinged remained at No. 2 on Redbox’s disc rental chart, and slipped to No. 3 on the Redbox On Demand chart.

Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan remained dropped to No. 3 on the disc rental chart after spending three of the previous four weeks in the top spot.

Rounding out the top five on both charts was The New Mutants, from Disney-owned 20th Century Studios, which dropped a spot from the previous week.

Newcomers on the top 10 disc chart include MPI’s Arthur & Merlin: Knights of Camelot, another retelling of the Camelot tale, at No. 8, and Lionsgate’s Smiley Face Killers, a horror film about a man who believes he is being stalked by a hooded figure, at No. 9.

Another title new to the On Demand chart, at No. 9, was STX Films’ Songbird, a controversial thriller about a future world where the pandemic is in full effect in 2024 after the coronvirus continues to mutate. It hit premium VOD Dec. 11.
