Netflix has taken to social media warning subscribers not to engage in the so-called Bird Box challenge, that began as an online meme challenging users to go about their daily lives blindfolded.
The Netflix original movie, which was viewed by more than 45 million Netflix households during its first week of release, stars Sandra Bullock as a single mom trying to safeguard her children in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious force makes people commit suicide when viewing it.
To avoid harm, survivors must remain blindfolded when outdoors.
“Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE,” Netflix tweeted. “We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.”
