Netflix: ‘Stranger Things 4 Vol. 1’ Tops Record 286 Million Hours in Premiere Weekend

The long-awaited return of “Stranger Things” with the first part of the fourth season on Netflix saw the series skyrocket to No. 1 on the streamer with a record-breaking 286.8 million hours viewed across 83 countries the week ended May 29.

The tally and country reach were the biggest premiere weekend ever for an English-language TV show on Netflix, the company said.

Previous seasons of “Stranger Things” also tracked high, with season one topping 38 millions hours viewed, season two at 22.2 million hours, and Season 3 at 24.3 million hours.

“The Lincoln Lawyer” came in second with 64.8 million hours viewed. The series was in the top 10 in 75 countries. The second half of “Ozark” season four continued to stay the course, pulling in an additional 21.9 million hours viewed. The drama also moved into the eighth spot with 491 million hours viewed. With 11.3 million hours viewed in its 10th week, fans still can’t get enough of “Bridgerton” season two.

Among the top 10 non-English language series, Spain’s “Wrong Side of the Tracks” took the top spot with 61.6 million hours viewed across 71 countries. Season three of “Who Killed Sara?” was No. 2 with 31.8 million hours viewed. Seasons one and two of the Mexican thriller pulled in 14.6 million hours viewed and 11.77 million hours viewed, respectively. Other top-streamed shows included Spanish drama “Welcome to Eden” (14.34 million hours viewed), Colombian thriller “The Marked Heart” (12.9 million hours viewed), Korean dramas “Our Blues” (12.7 million hours) and “Tomorrow”(11.1 million hours), and Korean comedy “Business Proposal” (9.99 million hours).

The romantic comedy A Perfect Pairing topped the English-language movie list with 32.6 million hours streamed across 93 countries. Previous chart topper Senior Year came in at No. 2 with 24.5 million hours across 90 countries. Our Father remained on the list with 5.1 million hours viewed.

On the non-English films side, the Indian saga RRR Hindi topped the list with 18.3 million hours viewed. The Dutch romantic comedy F*ck Love Too had 15.6 million hours viewed, with the feel-good Danish drama Toscana scoring 14 million hours. The French and Spanish comedies The Takedown and The Perfect Family followed with 6 million hours and 4.8 million hours), respectively. New chart entrants included the Turkish drama Godspeed (4.6 million hours) and the Korean kids comedy Larva Pendant with 3 million hours streamed.
