Netflix: ‘Hustle,’ ‘Stranger Things 4’ Dominate Weekly Movie, Episodic Streamed Content

The NBA season may be over, but original basketball-themed movie Hustle continued to resonate with Netflix subscribers. The sports drama stayed atop the English Films List for a second week with 57.19 million hours viewed.

As Adam Sandler’s most loved film on Rotten Tomatoes, Hustle  continued to receive praise from press and fans alike and made the Top 10 in 90 countries. Spiderhead, the genre-bending psychological thriller debuted at No. 2 with 35.4 million hours viewed. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollet, the film appeared in the Top 10 in 93 countries.

In the No. 3 spot, Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness generated 23.75 million hours across 30 countries. 

Following the Tribeca Film Festival’s opening night premiere, Jennifer Lopez’s documentary, Halftime, entered the list in the No. 4 spot with 18.88 million hours viewed. Giving streamers a peek behind the curtain into her life, the film was in the Top 10 in 67 countries. Viewers also kept Interceptor on their radar as the film came in No. 5 with 13.11 million hours viewed. Inspired by true events, Trees of Peace took viewers on a journey of an unbreakable sisterhood bond during genocide in Rwanda. The film, directed by first-time filmmaker Alanna Brown, had 9.38 million hours viewed. 

When Netflix announced a second season and reality game based on South Korean global hit “Squid Game,” the first season of the show jumped back into the Top 10 non-English TV list with 7.48 million hours viewed. New entrants on the list included Brazilian dramedy, “Maldivas” (11.3 million hours viewed) and Season 2 of Mexican comedy “The War Next Door” (7.71 million hours viewed). While mainstays on the list, Spanish dramas “Intimacy” (30.21 million hours viewed) and Our Blues (15 million hours viewed), Spanish thriller “Wrong Side of the Tracks” (9.68 million hours viewed) and Turkish drama “As The Crow Flies” (7.64 million hours viewed), kept fans enthralled.  

After four weeks, “Stranger Things 4″ hasn’t lost its power. The series remained in the top spot on the English TV List with 102.26 million hours viewed and appeared in the Top 10 in 93 countries. Season 4 was the most viewed title this week and has now amassed 883.30 million hours viewed on the Most Popular list.  Past seasons held on strong, coming in at #4 (Season 3), #5 (Season 2) and #6 (Season 1).

Fans continued to explore the two world wars, by order of the Peaky Blinders. The sixth and final season came in second with 61.36 million hours viewed. Additionally, Season 1 entered the list with 16.42 million hours viewed. “First Kill” put a stake in the third spot with 48.77 million hours viewed, appearing in the Top 10 in 83 countries. In its premiere week, “God’s Favorite Idiot,” starring Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy, had 22.48 million hours viewed and made the Top 10 in 26 countries. Meanwhile, “Keep Sweet: Pray” and “Obey” and “The Lincoln Lawyer” kept audiences tuned in with 27.64 million hours viewed and 17.55 million hours viewed, respectively. 

On the non-English Films side, fans flocked to new releases. Argentinian psychological thriller The Wrath of God (17.23 million hours viewed), Spanish action-adventure Centauro (13.87 million hours viewed) and Polish romantic comedy Heart Parade (12.4 million hours viewed) debuted in the top three spots on the list.
