Netflix: New Season of ‘Bridgerton’ Dominates Weekly Streaming With Record 45.1 Million Views Through May 19

The first part of the third season of Shonda Rhimes’ period romance “Bridgerton” debuted at No. 1 overall on the Netflix English-language TV chart with a record 45.1 million views. The series, which stars Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton, was tops in 78 countries and reached the top 10 in 92 countries.

Part two of the season is set to release on June 13. Both previous seasons of the juggernaut series returned to the charts, with aeason one at No. 4 with 4.5 million views, and season two No. 8 with 3.3 million views on the English-language TV chart, respectively. 

Brooke Shields’ role as Mother of the Bride continues to resonate with streamers. Shields, who co-stars with Benjamin Bratt, Miranda Cosgrove, and Chad Michael Murray, among others, claimed the top spot for a second week on the English-language movie chart (and No. 2 overall) with 25.4 million views, taking its 14-day total to 52.1 million views.

Spain’s actioner The Courier remained atop the non-English-language movie chart with 11.2 million views. Crunchyroll’s animated “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hashira Training Arc,” topped all non-English-language episodic content with 5.4 million views in its debut.

Meanwhile, comic Richard Gadd’s controversial series “Baby Reindeer” remained in the top three on the English-language TV chart with 7.4 million views in its sixth week. Former President Barrack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama’s executive-produced Irish true-crime thriller “Bodkin” ranked No. 6 with 4.4 million views. “A Man in Full,” the limited series from David. E Kelley starring Jeff Daniels and Diane Lane, came in at No. 9 with 2.4 million views.

“The Roast of Tim Brady” host Kevin Hart kept the laughs coming with his  “The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor” award event, which featured tributes from Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, George Wallace and Jerry Seinfeld, and claimed the No. 5 spot with 4.1 million views. The Tom Brady roast spent a third week on the chart at No. 7 with 3.4 million views. 

Sony Pictures’ licensed Madame Web ranked No. 2 on the English-language movie chart with 10.8 million views in its debut. The animated kids film Thelma the Unicorn, featuring the voices of Brittany Howard, Will Forte and Jemaine Clement, finished No. 4 its debut with 7.3 million views. Former chart topper, Jerry Seinfeld’s Unfrosted remained on the chart at No. 9 with 2.5 million views in its third week. 

India’s “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” the period drama from BAFTA winner Sanjay Leela Bhansali, finished No. 5 on the non-English-language TV chart with 2.4 million views. Korean series took three spots on the chart with “Queen of Tears” at No. 6 with 1.8 million views, “The 8 Show” bowing at No. 7 with 1.7 million views, and the time travel limited series, “The Atypical Family,” at No. 8 with 1.5 million views.

Indonesian horror-thriller Monster finished No. 3 on the non-English-language movie chart with 3.3 million views, and the Mexican true-crime documentary, The Guardian of the Monarchs bowed at No. 7 with 2 million views.
