Netflix Oct. 19 announced it would begin streaming catalog episodes of former teen hit “Dawson’s Creek” in the United States on Nov. 1. The series, which aired on the WB from 1998 to 2003, was a springboard for actors Katie Holmes, James Van Der Beek, Joshua Jackson and Michelle Williams, among others.
The show underscores Netflix’s push to stream catalog as well as original content. In a recent Nielsen chart, 50% of Netflix’s most-popular streamed shows were TV reruns, including “The Office,” “Shameless,” “NCIS,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Criminal Minds.”

In a post on its social media site, Netflix said the series would not feature the theme song from the TV original, “I Don’t Want to Wait” by Paula Cole. The song is reportedly not included in Netflix’s streams due to Cole’s contractual issues with Warner Music. The song was replaced by singer Jan Arden’s “Run Like Mad,” whose rights are reportedly licensed by the show’s original producer, Sony Pictures Television.
