‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ Debuts Atop Weekly Vudu Chart

Universal Pictures’ Minions: The Rise of Gru debuted atop the chart of the 10 most popular films on Fandango’s transactional digital service Vudu the week ended Aug. 7.

The latest installment in the Illumination animated series tells the story of 12-year-old Gru’s dream to become the world’s greatest supervillain. It’s available for premium digital purchase and rental.

Falling from the top spot to No. 2 on the chart was Universal’s Jurassic World Dominion. Available for premium digital rental and purchase, the movie co-stars franchise regulars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, along with cast members Laura Dern, Sam Neil, and Jeff Goldblum from the original series. It’s the third in the “Jurassic World” franchise and the sixth in the overall “Jurassic” franchise. In the film, set four years after the destruction of Isla Nubar, dinosaurs roam the Earth again.

Dropping from No. 2 to No. 3 on the chart was Universal’s horror film The Black Phone, newly available for regular digital purchase. It follows a teenage boy who is abducted by a sadistic killer (Ethan Hawke) and discovers a phone in the basement that allows him to communicate with the killer’s previous victims.
