Merchandising: Nov. 29 Promos Favor Preorders Over New Releases
November 30, 2022
Retailers didn’t have much to harp about among the Nov. 29 new releases on DVD and Blu-ray. Rather than offer exclusives for the week’s meager slate of newcomers, promotional materials tended to tout preorders for a few upcoming titles.
The big one in particular was HBO’s House of the Dragon: The Complete First Season, which arrives on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Dec. 20. Best Buy featured the title prominently on its website’s “Top Deals” section for home entertainment, showcasing the 4K edition for preorder for $49.99. Target had a picture of the DVD version in its weekly circular as the most prominent home entertainment release, with a $34.99 preorder listing.
Target also had a picture of Universal’s George Clooney and Julia Roberts comedy Ticket to Paradise listed in its circular and website as if it were now available, though its DVD and Blu-ray street date hasn’t been announced.
Preorders for exclusives included Best Buy’s Steelbook edition of Lionsgate’s Clerks III, arriving Dec. 6 for $21.99. Best Buy’s Steelbook is also the only 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray edition of the film, and includes a regular Blu-ray as well.
Walmart will have an exclusive $34.96 Blu-ray of Sony Pictures’ Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile that comes with five Shawn Mendes song downloads.
Among promotions for the here and now, Target touted up to 50% off movie and book boxed sets.
