‘Madame Web’ Climbs to Top Spot on Disc Sales Chart

Sony Pictures’ Madame Web debuted at No. 1 on the Circana VideoScan First Alert Chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart the week ended May 4.

The film, about a Spider-Man character who gains the power to see the future, earned $43.82 million at the domestic box office.

The previous week’s top seller, MGM’s The Beekeeper, distributed by Warner, slid to No. 2 overall and No. 5 on the Blu-ray chart.

Most of the week’s top 10 were chart newcomers. No. 3, No. 4, No. 6 and No. 7 were the new Steelbook Blu-ray sets for Disney+ original series “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” “Andor,” “Moon Knight” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”

No. 5 was the drama Ordinary Angels, from Lionsgate. No 8 was Paramount’s Lawmen: Bass Reeves, while No. 9 was the remake of Mean Girls.

HD formats accounted for 60% of total Madame Web unit sales, with 36% from regular Blu-ray and 24% from 4K Ultra HD disc. Ordinary Angels saw 44% of its total come from the Blu-ray version, while Lawmen: Bass Reeves had 9% of sales from Blu-ray. The Mean Girls remake had 45% from HD, with 35% from regular Blu-ray and 10% from 4K.

The four Disney Steelbooks were Blu-ray-only releases. Andor: Season 1 had 59% of its sales come from the 4K Ultra HD version, making it No. 1 on the 4K chart. Obi-Wan Kenobi was the No. 2 Blu-ray seller and No. 2 on the 4K chart, with 50% of its total sales coming from 4K. Moon Knight had 59% of its sales come from Blu-ray, while Falcon and the Winter Soldier had 52%.

Andor: Season 1 was No. 3 on the Blu-ray chart, while Moon Knight was No. 4.
