‘Knock at the Cabin’ Tops Redbox Disc Rentals; ‘Evil Dead Rise’ No. 1 On Demand

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s Knock at the Cabin debuted at No. 1 on the Redbox disc rental chart the week ended May 14. The latest film from director M. Night Shyamalan, about a vacationing family taken hostage by armed strangers who demand they make a choice to avert the apocalypse, was No. 2 on the Redbox On Demand chart.

The No. 1 title on the Redbox On Demand chart, which tracks digital VOD and sellthrough transactions, was Warner’s “Evil Dead” continuation, Evil Dead Rise, about two estranged sisters whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh‐possessing demons.

Universal’s Cocaine Bear remained No. 2 on the Redbox disc rental chart, which tracks DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals at Redbox’s thousands of red kiosks. The horror comedy, based on an actual incident, involves a bear becoming addicted to cocaine dumped by smugglers into the woods of Georgia, and rampaging through a national park in search of more. It was No. 3 on the Redbox On Demand chart.

The previous week’s top disc rental, Universal’s sports comedy Champions, dropped to No. 3 on the Redbox disc rental chart.

The No. 4 disc rental was RLJ Entertainment’s Children of the Corn remake from Shudder, based on the Stephen King novel about a society of children who ritualistically murder adults.

Lionsgate’s Plane dropped to No. 5 on the disc chart, and No. 94 on the Redbox On Demand chart.

No. 4 on the digital chart was director Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant, from MGM. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a U.S. Army sergeant who sets out to rescue the family of the Afghan interpreter who saved his life.

The No. 5 Redbox On Demand title was Paramount’s Scream VI.
