Kino Lorber Slates Season 4 Release of Classic 1960s BBC Series ‘Maigret’

Kino Lorber on March 28 will release the fourth and final season of the classic 1960s BBC television series “Maigret” on Blu-ray Disc and digital platforms Kino Now, Amazon and iTunes.

The four-disc Blu-ray Disc edition, which carries a suggested retail price of $49.95, includes all 13 episodes of the series’ fourth season, in which Maigret reckons with “The Fontenay Murders,” “The Crime at Lock 14,” and various other vexing cases. Like previous seasons, season four has been remastered in high-definition from original film elements and is featured in its original full-screen TV format.

Bonus features include the feature-length movie Maigret at Bay, released in 1969 as part of the BBC Play of the Month series; a restoration featurette, “The State of Maigret”; and a trailer.

The “Maigret” series is considered the definitive adaptation of Georges Simenon’s famous novels. The BBC television production stars Rupert Davies as Commissaire Jules Maigret, the dogged French detective. Though Simenon’s books have been adapted many times, Davies’s celebrated, BAFTA-winning portrayal won the approval of Simenon himself, who stated: “At last, I have found the perfect Maigret!”

“Maigret” was rebooted in 1992 and again in 2016. Most recently, the French film Maigret was released in 2022, with Gerard Depardieu as the fictional detective.

The original series has been rolled out monthly by Kino Lorber since last December.
