With 2022 in the history book, a look back reveals a competitive field of the most popular movies and TV shows streamed across the digital landscape.

New data from JustWatch, which tracks the streaming video habits of 20 million users across 59 markets, including the U.S., found that the most-streamed movies of the year included Paramount Pictures’ blockbuster theatrical hit, Top Gun: Maverick and Warner Bros. Pictures/DC Comics’ The Batman — the studio’s top-grossing box office release of the year.

The movie studio scorecard included Universal Pictures with three titles (Jurassic World Dominion, Nope and Minions: The Rise of Gru), Disney with three (Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and 20th Century Studios’ Barbarian), Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick, A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, Warner’s The Batman, and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The top streamed shows included HBO Max’s “House of the Dragon,” and “Euphoria,”  Prime Video’s “The Boys,” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” AMC’s “Better Call Saul” and “The Walking Dead,” Peacock’s “Yellowstone,” and Netflix’s record holders, “Stranger Things” season four, “Bridgerton” and director Tim Burton’s supernatural dark comedy “Wednesday,” the latter finishing No. 4 for the year despite only debuting in November.
