Netflix may be the only profitable and largest SVOD platform, with more than 231 global subscribers, but the pioneering service has lost 13% of its global market share in the past two years, according to new data from JustWatch, which tracks the streaming video habits of 20 million users across 59 markets, including the United States.
Specifically, Berlin-based JustWatch found Netflix’s market share went from the mid-30s to around 20% from Jan. 1, 2020, to Dec. 31, 2022. At the same time, the market share for Disney+ increased from 10% to more than 15%, and HBO Max saw its standing increase to 8%. Prime Video saw a 5% decline to 20%. Apple TV+ experienced a roller-coaster ride falling below 30% market share.
