‘Jurassic World Dominion’ Maintains Dominance of DVD and Blu-ray Sales Charts

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s Jurassic World Dominion remained No. 1 on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart the week ended Aug. 27.

A collection of all six “Jurassic” films slipped a spot to No. 6 on both charts.

The sixth film finds the casts of the original Jurassic Park trilogy and the sequels coming together to stop a corporation from using genetically engineered locusts in a world where dinosaurs once again roam free. It earned $375.6 million at the domestic box office. The home video editions of Jurassic World Dominion include an extended version of the film.

Paramount’s video game adaptation sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2, remained No. 2 on the overall disc sales chart, but slipped to No. 3 on the Blu-ray Disc sales tracking chart.

Sonic 2 sold 16.5% as many units during the week as Jurassic World Dominion.

The week’s top newcomer, at No. 3 overall and No. 2 on the Blu-ray Disc chart, was Crunchyroll’s My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission, the third film in the Japanese “My Hero Academia” manga franchise about a school to hone superpowers. World Heroes’ Mission finds the students teaming with professional heroes against a doomsday cult that wants to end humanity. It earned $12.27 million at the domestic box office. The film was released only as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack so all of its unit sales count toward its Blu-ray share.

No. 4 overall and No. 5 on the Blu-ray chart was Unviersal Pictures’ The Black Phone, starring Ethan Hawke. In the film, a kidnapped boy finds a phone that allows him to hear from previous victims.

Disney-owned Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was No. 5 overall and No. 4 on the Blu-ray chart in its fifth week on shelves.
