‘Jurassic World Dominion’ Ascends to No. 1 on Redbox Disc Rental Chart

Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World Dominion took over the No. 1 spot on the Redbox disc rental chart the week ended Aug. 21. The sixth “Jurassic” film unites the casts from the original and sequel trilogies to expose a corporation producing genetically enhanced locusts. It earned $374 million at the domestic box office and was No. 4 on the Redbox On Demand chart.

No. 2 on the disc rental chart, which tracks DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals at Redbox’s thousands of red kiosks, was another newcomer, Universal’s The Black Phone, a thriller starring Ethan Hawke about a kidnapped boy who finds a phone that lets him hear from previous victims. It earned $88.8 million at the domestic box office.

The previous week’s top disc rental, Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2, slipped to No. 3. The video game adaptation finds Sonic teaming with Tails the flying fox to locate a mystical jewel being sought by Dr. Robotnik and Knuckles. It was No. 9 on the Redbox On Demand chart.

Paramount’s The Lost City slid to No. 4 on the Redbox disc rental chart and No. 8 on the Redbox On Demand chart, which tracks digital VOD and sellthrough transactions.

Rounding out the top five disc rentals was Vertical Entertainment’s action-thriller Last Seen Alive. It rose to No. 5 on the Redbox On Demand chart.

The No. 1 digital title was Vertical Entertainment’s Gone in the Night, a thriller starring Winona Ryder. It was No. 6 on the disc rental chart, where it is a Redbox exclusive.

The top title on the Redbox On Demand chart the previous week, Warner’s Elvis, a biopic about Elvis Presley, slipped to No. 2.

The No. 3 digital title was Lionsgate’s Paradise Highway, a thriller about truckers in a human smuggling ring trying to outrun the FBI.
