Disney’s Jungle Cruise debuted at No. 1 on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart the week ended Nov. 20.
The adventure film, which stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt and is based on the famed Disney parks attraction of the same name, earned $117 million at the domestic box office.
The previous week’s top seller, Universal Pictures’ F9: The Fast Saga slipped to No. 2 on the overall disc sales chart, and stayed No. 2 on the Blu-ray Disc chart.
The No. 3 overall disc seller, getting a bump from the holiday season, was Universal’s 2018 animated movie The Grinch, which was No. 29 on the Blu-ray Disc chart.
The No. 4 title on both charts was Warner’s Godzilla vs. Kong. Warner’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League was No. 5 on the overall disc sales chart and No. 3 on the Blu-ray chart. The No. 5 Blu-ray was Lionsgate’s The Green Knight, which was No. 20 overall.
The only other newcomer in the top 20 was Universal’s Candyman relaunch at No. 14 overall and No. 10 on the Blu-ray chart.
Blu-ray Disc formats accounted for 55% of total Jungle Cruise unit sales, with 16% from 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and 39% from regular Blu-ray. Candyman had 65% of its first-week sales come from HD formats — 40% from regular Blu-ray and 25% from 4K.
The Media Play News rental chart the week ended Nov. 21 had Candyman at No. 1, pushing Disney’s Free Guy to No. 2 after two weeks in the top spot.
Universal’s Stillwater remained No. 3, while newcomer Prisoners of the Ghostland, a Nicolas Cage thriller from RLJ Entertainment, debuted at No. 4. Warner’s Reminiscence dropped three spots to No. 5.
