‘Joker’ Tops Disc Sales in January

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s Joker was No. 1 on the top 10 list of combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales for January 2020 according to the NPD Group’s VideoScan tracking service.

The award-winning film based on the origins of the Batman villain debuted on disc on Jan. 7.

Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, a Jan. 14 release, was No. 2 during the month.

Sony Pictures’ Zombieland: Double Tap landed at No. 3 for the month. It debuted Jan. 28.

Paramount’s Terminator: Dark Fate, which landed on disc Jan. 28, managed to take the month’s No. 4 spot.

The fact that the top four titles were the top sellers in their respective release weeks and ranked according to their release date is very indicative of how much a title’s first-week sales contribute to its lifetime total.

No. 5 for the month went to Paramount’s Gemini Man, a Jan. 14 release.

The month’s other big new release, MGM’s animated The Addams Family, distributed by Universal, was No. 6.
