Jan. 10 Home Video Slate Includes ‘She Said,’ ‘Fear the Walking Dead’

The slate of new releases on Blu-ray and DVD Jan. 10 includes She Said, season seven of “Fear the Walking Dead” and The Return of Tanya Tucker, while On the Come Up arrives for digital purchase.
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment releases She Said on Blu-ray Disc and DVD Jan. 10 — four days after it became available through digital retailers and for streaming on Peacock (Jan. 6). Inspired by the Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation that empowered women to speak out, the film follows the true story of how reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor shattered the silence surrounding sexual assault in Hollywood. Directed by Maria Schrader, She Said stars Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan, with Mulligan’s performance receiving a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The cast also includes Patricia Clarkson, Andre Braugher and Ashley Judd. Despite earning less than $6 million in theaters, She Said has been highly praised by critics as a testament to the power of investigative journalism and its influence in reinvigorating the #MeToo movement.”
Lionsgate releases Fear the Walking Dead: The Complete Seventh Season on Blu-ray Disc and DVD Jan. 10. The “Walking Dead” spinoff follows a group of survivors in Texas in the aftermath of a nuclear explosion. The cast includes Alycia Debnam-Carey, Colman Domingo, Lennie James, Maggie Grace, Austin Amelio, Colby Minifie, Karen David, Ruben Blades, Danay Garcia, Jenna Elfman, Alexa Nisenson and Mo Collins. Home video extras include a commentary on the first and 16th episodes with executive producers and co-showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg; commentary on the third episode with Elfman and writers Nick Bernardone and Jacob Pinion; and commentary on the 16th episode with Chambliss. In addition, the Blu-ray will include access to digital copies of the episodes.
The documentary The Return of Tanya Tucker will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc Jan. 10 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Country music legend Tanya Tucker defied the standards of how a woman in country music was supposed to behave. Decades after she slipped from the spotlight, rising Americana music star Brandi Carlile takes it upon herself to write an entire album for her hero based on Tucker’s life, spurring one of the greatest comebacks in country music history. The documentary follows Tucker’s bumpy ride back to the top as Carlile encourages her to push past her fears to create a new sound and reach a new audience. The writing, the experimenting, and refining of this new music mixes with all that came before — using rare archival footage and photographs to delve into Tucker’s history, beginning in a single wide trailer in Seminole, Texas.
The music drama On the Come Up, the directorial debut of Sanaa Lathan (“Succession”), will be released for digital purchase Jan. 10 from Paramount Home Entertainment. The film originally debuted on Paramount+. Based on the New York Times No. 1 best-selling novel by Angie Thomas (The Hate U Give), On the Come Up stars newcomer Jamila C. Gray (American Girl) as a gifted 16-year-old rapper, who attempts to take the battle rap scene by storm in order to lift up her family and do right by the legacy of her father — a local hip hop legend whose career was cut short by gang violence. When her first hit song goes viral for all the wrong reasons, she finds herself torn between the authenticity that got her this far and the false persona that the industry wants to impose upon her. The film also stars Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Lost City), Lil Yachty, Sanaa Lathan and Cliff “Method Man” Smith. It arrives on DVD Feb. 14.
The Palestinian drama 200 Meters will be released on digital and DVD Jan. 10 from Film Movement. The film follows Mustafa, a Palestinian construction worker who lives in a West Bank home a mere 200 meters away from his wife and children, who are on the other side of the Israeli border wall. Though eligible for an Israeli ID, Mustafa sacrifices living with his family in resistance to what he believes are unjust laws enforced by the occupying Israeli government, so he instead uses his work permit to visit daily. The arrangement is functional, until one day Mustafa gets a call every parent dreads: His son has been seriously injured and brought to an Israeli hospital. Rushing to cross the border checkpoint, Mustafa is denied on a technicality. Stopping at nothing to reach his child, a 200 meter distance becomes a 200 kilometer odyssey, as the increasingly desperate Mustafa attempts to smuggle himself to the other side of the wall. The film stars Ali Suliman (Paradise Now, “Jack Ryan”). Extras include audio commentary with director Ameen Nayfeh and a bonus short film “The Crossing,” directed by Nayfeh, about three siblings anxious to visit their ailing grandfather on the other side of the Palestine-Israel border who encounter difficulties at the checkpoint.
The Decal Releasing horror title Feed Me will be released on Blu-ray Disc and DVD Jan. 10 from and Distribution Solutions. In the film, following the death of his wife, a broken man spirals into an abyss of night tremors and depression. He finds himself in the home of a deranged cannibal who convinces him to take his own life in the most horrific way imaginable. The film stars Neal Ward, Christopher Mulvin and Hannah Al Rashid.
Decal’s sci-fi comedy I’m Totally Fine will be released on DVD Jan. 10 from Distribution Solutions. In the film, a woman in mourning takes a solo trip to clear her head after the death of her friend. However, Vanessa’s self-care vacation plans change when she’s met with a situation out of this world. I’m Totally Fine stars Blake Anderson and Jillian Bell.
The crime thriller Poker Face, directed by and starring Russell Crowe, arrives on DVD and Blu-ray Jan. 10 from Screen Media. In the film, tech billionaire and gambler Jake Foley (Crowe) hosts a high-stakes poker game between childhood friends, offering them the chance to win more money than they’ve ever dreamed of. The evening takes a turn when he unveils his elaborate plan seeking revenge for their betrayals and to play, they’ll have to give up the one thing they’ve spent their lives trying to keep — their secrets. As the game unfolds, thieves break in and they must band together to survive a night of terror. The film also stars Liam Neeson, RZA and Elsa Pataky. The film was written by Stephen M. Coates and Crowe.

The MPI Media Group on Jan. 10 will release, on DVD only, Gerry Anderson: A Life Uncharted, a documentary on the man who created some of the world’s most beloved children’s TV series, including “Thunderbirds,” “Stingray,” “Captain Scarlet,” “Space:1999,” “Terrahawks” and “Space Precinct.” Anderson’s successful career spanned 60 years. Released a decade after his death, this documentary uses a wealth of intimate audio archive combined with deep fake technology to allow Anderson to tell his story on screen for the first time. The film features additional new interviews and commentary from friends, family, and colleagues, and traces Anderson’s life from a poverty-stricken childhood through a lifetime of personal struggles.
The 1988 Jackie Chan action film Dragons Forever will be released on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Disc Jan. 10 from MVD Entertainment Group and 88 Films. In the film, hotshot lawyer Jackie Lung (Chan) is hired to defend the owner of a factory which, unbeknownst to him, is the center of a clandestine narcotics syndicate. He enlists resourceful acquaintances Wong Fei-Hung (Sammo Hung) and Dung Dak-Biu (Yuen Biao) to assist in the case, but loyalties begin to falter when romance blossoms. The release includes 4K restorations of the original Hong Kong version; the English version, which was commissioned by Golden Harvest for international audiences outside Asia with the classic English dub; and the Japanese Version, which features two extra scenes and an ending with outtakes and is presented with English subtitles.
The documentary Being Thunder will be released on DVD and digital Jan. 10 from Film Movement. The film, an Official Selection of Frameline, NewFest, The American Indian Film Festival and the Inside Out Film Festival, introduces the Native American role of a two-spirit person, who embodies masculine and feminine qualities through many gender expressions informed by Indigenous traditions and community roles. The film focuses on the life and advocacy of Sherente Mishitahin Harris, a two-spirit genderqueer teenager from Rhode Island’s Narragansett tribe. Wearing traditional female dress, Sherente joyfully performs a traditional female dance in competition at Powwows around New England, but not everyone accepts Sherente’s inclusion in the “girls” category.
Two Sonny Chiba martial arts masterpieces in The Executioner Collection arrive Jan. 10 on Blu-ray Disc from Arrow Video and MVD Entertainment Group. The collection features an illustrated collector’s booklet with new writing on the films by Mark Schilling, new audio commentaries featuring Chris Poggiali and Marc Walkow, a 30-minute featurette on Chiba, original trailers and image galleries. In The Executioner, legendary cult director Teruo Ishii joins forces with action superstar Chiba in a tale of classic karate exploitation from Toei. Ryuichi Koga (Chiba) is a descendant of the Koga Ninja school, now earning his living through more nefarious means as a gun for hire. When he is enlisted to take down a drug cartel alongside Hayabusa (Makoto Sato), a disgraced former narcotics detective now operating within the criminal underworld, and renegade Aikido master Sakura (Eiji Gō), tensions grow. Koga returns in The Executioner II: Karate Inferno as the ringmaster of a gang of thieves plotting to steal a priceless jewel from a master criminal.
Arrow Video and MVD Entertainment Group Jan. 10 release The Dunwich Horror, American International Pictures’ and Roger Corman’s foray into the world of H.P. Lovecraft, directed by Daniel Haller and also the first screenwriting credit for Curtis Hanson, who would later direct the multi-award-winning L.A. Confidential. Newly restored by Arrow from the original 35mm camera negative, The Dunwich Horror features an illustrated collector’s booklet with new writing by film critics Johnny Mains and Jack Sargeant; new audio commentary by Guy Adams and Alexandra Benedict; new interviews with film historian Stephen R. Bissette and horror author Stephen Laws, science fiction and fantasy writer Ruthanna Emrys, and music historian David Huckvale; the original trailer; and image galleries. In the film, Dean Stockwell stars as Wilbur Whateley, a mysterious young man who travels from the small town of Dunwich to the library of Miskatonic University intent on returning with the legendary book of occult lore, the Necronomicon. Graduate student Nancy Wagner (Sandra Dee, in her final film role) falls under Wilbur’s malignant influence and travels back home with him — oblivious to her sacrificial role in a ritual to summon Cthuloid beasts from another dimension.
Kino Lorber on Jan. 10 releases on Blu-ray Disc two 1960s action films directed by Buzz Kulik, Warning Shot and Sergeant Ryker, as part of its Studio Classics line.
Warning Shot (1967) stars David Janssen, Joan Collins, Stefanie Powers, Carroll O’Connor and silent film legend Lillian Gish. In this crime drama set in Los Angeles, Janssen is Tom Valens, an L.A.P.D. sergeant who fatally shoots what he perceives to be an armed suspect — but the man’s “weapon” is nowhere to be found. Moreover, the deceased is a respected doctor with a seemingly impeccable reputation and character. Charged with manslaughter and suspended from the force, Sgt. Valens ignores public outcry and sets out to gather the puzzle’s pieces, produce the “missing” gun, and clear his name. Other notable cast members include Steve Allen, Ed Begley, George Grizzard, Eleanor Parker, Walter Pidgeon, George Sanders, Sam Wanamaker and Keenan Wynn. The film arrives on Blu-ray Disc from a new HD master made from a 2K scan of the 35mm interpositive. Bonus features include an audio commentary by film historian and filmmaker Daniel Kremer and a remastered theatrical trailer.
Sergeant Ryker (1968) stars Lee Marvin, Vera Miles, Bradford Dillman, Peter Graves and Lloyd Nolan. In the wake of a failed raid during the Korean War, Sgt. Paul Ryker (Marvin) is charged with aiding the enemy. Ryker’s defense rests on the notion that he was ordered to carry out a secret offensive against the North Koreans. But because the mission was so closely guarded, nobody can vouch for him. Capt. David Young (Dillman) is the Army’s prosecutor, but his impartiality comes under scrutiny when it’s revealed that he has been wooing Ryker’s wife, Ann (Miles). In the end, the case is decided by the strange testimony of a lone soldier. Is Ryker innocent, or should he hang? Sergeant Ryker is a TV movie that originally was broadcast in 1963 as “The Case Against Paul Ryker,” a two-part episode of the “Kraft Suspense Theatre.” It was reissued as a theatrical feature film five years later to capitalize on Marvin’s soaring popularity from his role in The Dirty Dozen. Ryker arrives on Blu-ray from a new HD master made from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative. Bonus features include an audio commentary by director Joseph Zito, moderated by filmmaker Michael Felsher; an interview with screenwriter James Bruner; and a remastered theatrical trailer.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is re-releasing the 1993 comedy Groundhog Day on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in limited-edition Steelbook packaging Jan. 10 to mark the film’s 30th anniversary. Groundhog Day stars Bill Murray as a weatherman who is stuck re-living the same day over and over. The cast also includes Andie MacDowell, Chris Elliott and Stephen Tobolowsky. It was directed by the late Harold Ramis. The film was previously released on 4K in 2018 for its 25th anniversary. The new release includes the film on a 4K disc, a regular Blu-ray and a digital copy. The 4K presentation includes Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos audio + 5.1 + 2-channel surround sound, and the film’s theatrical trailer. The Blu-ray includes Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio, an audio commentary with Ramis, deleted scenes, “Needle Nose Ned’s” picture-in-picture track, the documentary The Weight of Time, the featurette “The Study of Groundhogs: A Real-Life Look at Marmots,” and “A Different Day: An Interview with Harold Ramis.”
