‘Godzilla vs. Kong,’ ‘Voyagers’ Lead New Disc Releases June 15

Science-fiction movies Godzilla vs. Kong from Warner Bros. and Voyagers from Lionsgate lead the slate of new releases on DVD and Blu-ray June 15.

Godzilla vs. Kong June 15 arrives on Blu-ray Disc, DVD and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The film stars Alexander Skarsgård and Millie Bobby Brown. In this fourth installment of the “MonsterVerse,” Kong and his human handlers undertake a perilous journey to find his true home, but unexpectedly find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla, cutting a swath of destruction across the globe. The epic clash between the two titans is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the Earth. The film was previously released concurrently in theaters and on the HBO Max streaming service, and is already available for digital purchase. The science-fiction thriller Voyagers arrives on DVD, Blu-ray Disc and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray from Lionsgate. Written and directed by Neil Burger (Limitless, The Illusionist), the film stars Colin Farrell, Tye Sheridan, Lily-Rose Depp and Fionn Whitehead. In the film, with the future of the human race at stake, a group of young men and women, bred for intelligence and obedience, embark on an expedition to colonize a distant planet. But when they uncover disturbing secrets about the mission, they defy their training and begin to explore their most primitive natures. As life on the ship descends into chaos, they’re consumed by fear, lust and the insatiable hunger for power.

The comedic drama French Exit, which earned Michelle Pfeiffer a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress, is available on Blu-ray and DVD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. “My plan was to die before the money ran out,” says 60-year-old, penniless Manhattan socialite Frances Price (Pfeiffer) in the film, but things don’t go as planned. Her husband, Franklin, has been dead for 12 years. With his vast inheritance gone, she cashes in the last of her possessions and resolves to live out her twilight days anonymously in a borrowed apartment in Paris, accompanied by her directionless son, Malcolm (Lucas Hedges), and a cat named Small Frank — who may or may not embody the spirit of Frances’ dead husband.

The animated sequel Rock Dog 2: Rock Around the Park arrives on Blu-ray Disc and DVD June 15 from Lionsgate. It was released digitally June 11. In the sequel, one year after the events of the original Rock Dog, Bodi and his band, True Blue, have become locally famous in the village of Snow Mountain. They even have devoted fans. But when a music mogul named Lang gives them the opportunity to tour with pop sensation Lil’ Foxy, Bodi and his friends learn that fame comes at a price, and ultimately discover that only by staying true to yourself can you unleash the power of rock ‘n’ roll.

RLJE Films, a business unit of AMC Networks, releases The Walking Dead: World Beyond — Season One on Blu-ray Disc and DVD June 15. The three-disc sets will include all 10 episodes from the first season of “The Walking Dead” spinoff that focuses on a group of teenagers who represent the first generation to grow up in the apocalypse. A decade into the fall of civilization, sisters Hope (Alexa Mansour) and Iris Bennett (Aliyah Royale) have grown up inside the walls of one of the few remaining first-world communities. When the sisters receive a message that their father might be in a danger at a research facility 1,000 miles away, they defy their community’s rules and enlist their friends Elton (Nicolas Cantu) and Silas (Hal Cumpston)to embark on a cross-country quest to save him. Leaving their sheltered upbringing behind, these teenagers learn how to fight threats both living and dead as they travel through a beautiful but decaying and dangerous world.

CBS and Paramount Home Entertainment release the Showtime legal drama Your Honor on DVD June 15. The 10-part limited series stars Bryan Cranston as respected New Orleans Judge Michael Desiato. After his teenage son, Adam (Hunter Doohan), is involved in a hit-and-run accident, the judge must tread carefully through a high-stakes game of lies, deceit and impossible choices. Unbeknownst to Adam, the victim is the son of dangerous crime boss Jimmy Baxter (Michael Stuhlbarg) and his wife, Gina (Hope Davis), who are both out for vengeance and will not stop until justice is served on their own terms.

The 1993 Clint Eastwood film In the Line of Fire comes out on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc, remastered with high dynamic range, on June 15 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. In the film from director Wolfgang Peterson, Eastwood stars as Frank Horrigan, a veteran Secret Service agent haunted by his failure to protect John F. Kennedy from assassination. Thirty years later, he gets a chance to redeem himself when a brilliant psychopath threatens to kill the current president and take Horrigan with him. Taunting him by phone and tantalizing him with clues, the assassin (John Malkovich) lures Horrigan into a battle of wits and will that only one man can survive. The film co-stars Rene Russo as Horrigan’s risk-taking field chief. The release features Dolby Atmos audio, original theatrical 5.1, and original theatrical stereo. Special features include audio commentary with Petersen, five deleted scenes, several featurettes and a theatrical teaser. The release does not include a regular Blu-ray copy but does come with a digital copy, for a limited time.

The week’s top digital release is The Kelsey Grammer film The Space Between from Paramount Home Entertainment. In the coming-of-age story set during the 1990s L.A. music scene, Grammer stars as Micky Adams, an eccentric has-been rock musician who loses his grip on reality as his record label looks to drop him and his new “unique” albums. In hopes of breaking out of the mailroom, young Charlie Porter (Jackson White) is tasked with traveling to the musician’s bizarre home and forcing Micky out of his contract. Micky realizes Charlie could be the key to an artistic breakthrough and the pair’s unlikely friendship grows. The odd but powerful bond helps both gain perspective on the music industry, life, love — and the space between.
