Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s Godzilla vs. Kong stayed No. 1 on the national physical media sales charts for a third consecutive week, taking the top spot on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart the week ended July 3.
No. 2 for a second week was Universal Pictures’ Nobody, the actioner from the “John Wick” creative team starring Bob Odenkirk. It sold about 54% as many copies as Godzilla vs. Kong during the week.
The titles held firm atop the charts mainly due to a lack of notable new releases during the week, resulting in a number of catalog titles dominating the top 20.
For instance, Warner’s 1996 animation/live-action sports comedy Space Jam climbed back to No. 4 in anticipation of the July 16 release of its sequel, Space Jam: A New Legacy, in theaters and on HBO Max.
And 1971’s Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, also from Warner, rose to No. 6 on the Blu-ray Disc chart (No. 22 overall) thanks to a new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray re-release to mark the film’s 50th anniversary, which accounted for 78% of the titles total unit sales.
The No. 3 overall disc seller, and No. 4 on the Blu-ray chart, was Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon.
Warner’s direct-to-video animated movie Batman: The Long Halloween — Part One dropped to No. 5 on the overall chart but stayed No. 3 on the Blu-ray chart.
The Media Play News rental chart for the week ended July 4 had Nobody at No. 1 for a second week, followed by Godzilla vs. Kong again at No. 2.
The Redbox-exclusive gangster drama Lansky rose four spots to No. 3, pushing Sony Pictures’ The Unholy to No. 4, while Universal’s Liam Neeson actioner The Marksman stayed at No. 5.
