‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ Tops Redbox Charts for Third Week

Sony Pictures’ Ghostbusters: Afterlife spent a third week atop both the Redbox disc rental chart and the Redbox On Demand chart the week ended Feb. 20.

The franchise relaunch from director Jason Reitman is a sequel to the 1980s “Ghostbusters” films and tells the story of a family moving to Oklahoma and uncovering their connection to one of the original Ghostbusters.

Another Sony title, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, remained No. 2 on both the disc rental chart, which tracks DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals at Redbox’s more than 40,000 red kiosks, and the Redbox On Demand chart, which tracks digital VOD and sellthrough transactions. The seventh “Resident Evil” film is a reboot of the film series based on the popular video game franchise of the same name.

The No. 3 disc rental was Paramount’s Clifford the Big Red Dog, which slipped a spot to No. 7 on the Redbox On Demand chart.

The new Disney animated musical Encanto arrived at No. 4 on the disc rental chart, delayed a week after its Feb. 8 disc debut. It rose a spot to No. 6 on the digital chart.

The No. 5 disc rental was Warner’s King Richard, a docudrama starring Will Smith as Richard Williams, father of tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams.
