‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ Takes Over Lead on Redbox Charts

Sony Pictures’ Ghostbusters: Afterlife took over the top spots on both the Redbox disc rental chart and the Redbox On Demand chart the week ended Feb. 6.

The franchise relaunch from director Jason Reitman is a sequel to the 1980s “Ghostbusters” films and tells the story of a family moving to the Midwest and uncovering their connection to one of the original Ghostbusters. It earned $128.8 million at the domestic box office. It had been No. 8 on the digital chart a week earlier.

Paramount’s Clifford the Big Red Dog made a No. 2 debut on the disc rental chart, which tracks DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals at Redbox’s more than 40,000 red kiosks. It remained No. 3 on the Redbox On Demand chart, which tracks digital VOD and sellthrough transactions.

The top disc rental the previous three weeks, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s Dune, slipped to No. 3 on the disc rental chart and No. 4 on the digital chart.
