FilmRise Acquires North American Rights to Comedy Thriller ‘Scheme Queens’

FilmRise, the New York-based film and television studio and streaming network, has acquired all North American distribution rights to the comedy-thriller Scheme Queens.

Described as a combination of the Urban classic Set It Off and the heist comedy of Oceans 11, the movie is about four girlfriends who find themselves down on their luck and devise a plan to change their futures.

“Scheme Queens is a great example of high-quality Urban cinema being created today by female Black filmmakers that we are always looking to add to our library,” Max Einhorn, SVP of acquisitions and co-productions for FilmRise, said in a statement. “This is an underserved audience in the entertainment industry, and we are happy to be adding the film to our growing library of Urban entertainment.”

Cast includes Brii Renee’ (“Don’t Waste Your Pretty”), B. Simone (“#Digital Lives Matter”), Jacky Oh (“Switched at Love”), and Ernestine Johnson (“Broad City”).

The movie had its world premiere at the 2022 American Black Film Festival where it was an Official Selection. The deal was negotiated by Gabriel Gazoul, director of acquisitions, new release, for FilmRise, and Jim Tosney, owner of Fuel Up Entertainment.
