Warner’s Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore debuted at No. 1 on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart the week ended July 2.
The third of the “Fantastic Beasts” movies, which serve as prequels to the “Harry Potter” movies, finds Dumbledore (Jude Law) organizing a mission to prevent Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) from seizing leadership of the wizarding world and declaring war on humanity. It earned $95.9 million at the domestic box office.
Blu-ray Disc formats accounted for 62% of total Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore unit sales, with 15% from 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and 47% from regular Blu-ray.
No. 2 for a second week on both charts was Universal Pictures’ The Bad Guys. The film from DreamWorks Animation is based on the Scholastic children’s graphic novels of the same name, and follows five infamous animal friends who set out to fool the world into believing they’ve gone good.
The top seller the previous two weeks, Sony Pictures’ Morbius, slipped to No. 3 on both charts in its third week.
The No. 4 overall disc seller was Paramount’s 1986 fighter jet classic Top Gun, continuing to get a boost from its theatrical sequel’s success. It was No. 7 on the Blu-ray chart.
The No. 4 Blu-ray seller, and No. 6 on the overall disc sales chart, was Lionsgate’s Nicolas Cage action-comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
The No. 5 seller on both charts was Warner’s The Batman.
