‘F9,’ ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ Return to Top of Disc Sales Charts

Amid a slew of discounts offered ahead of the annual Black Friday shopping period, the national DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales charts experienced a bit of upheaval the week ended Nov. 13 as several older titles pushed their way back into top chart spots.

The top seller on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, was Universal Pictures’s F9: The Fast Saga, the latest “Fast & Furious” sequel that was originally released on disc in September. It was No. 5 the previous week. It’s the fourth time in the top spot for F9, having spent three weeks in the top spot upon its release two months ago.

F9 was No. 2 on the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart, which saw Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Warner’s disc release of the director’s cut of the superhero team-up movie, jump back into the top spot. Zack Snyder’s Justice League was No. 2 on the overall disc sales chart.

A week earlier, Zack Snyder’s Justice League was No. 29 overall and No. 24 on the Blu-ray chart.

The top seller the previous two weeks, Warner’s The Suicide Squad, slipped to No. 4 overall and No. 3 on the Blu-ray chart.

The week’s top new release, at No. 12 overall and No. 16 on the Blu-ray Disc chart, was Universal’s disc release of MGM’s Respect, a biopic of Aretha Franklin starring Jennifer Hudson as the Queen of Soul. The film earned $24.3 million at the domestic box office. Blu-ray Disc accounted for 39% of its total unit sales.

The Media Play News rental chart for the week ended Nov. 14 had Disney-owned 20th Century Studios’ Free Guy at No. 1 for a second week.

No. 2 was Warner’s newly released Reminiscence, from Warner, a sci-fi noir starring Hugh Jackman that wasn’t much of a factor on the sales chart due to supply chain issues making it scarcely available on retail shelves.

Rounding out the top five rentals were Universal’s Stillwater and Old at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, and The Suicide Squad at No. 5.

Respect debuted at No. 6 on the rental chart.
