Dystopian Epic ‘Civil War’ Again Tops Weekly Fandango at Home Chart Through June 9

The dystopian epic Civil War again topped the chart of the 10 most-popular films on Fandango’s transactional digital service Fandango at Home (previously Vudu) for the week ended June 9.

The film, which became available for premium digital purchase and rental May 24 from A24, stars Kirsten Dunst, Cailee Spaeny, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson and Nick Offerman. It takes the increasing political polarization of the United States one step further, following a fictional journey across a dystopian future America by a team of military-embedded journalists as they race against time to reach Washington D.C. before rebel factions descend upon the White House.

Rising a spot to No. 2 on the chart was Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which became available for premium digital purchase and rental May 14. The action film follows up on the showdown of Godzilla versus Kong, pitting the two against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence — and our own.  The epic delves further into the histories of the Titans, their origins, and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge the extraordinary beings and tied them to humanity forever.

Debuting at No. 3 on the chart was The Stranger: Chapter 1, which is available for premium digital rental and purchase from Lionsgate. The horror film, directed by Renny Harlin, follows a young couple forced to spend the night in a remote cabin after their car breaks down in an eerie small town.

Falling two spots to No. 4 on the chart was Universal Pictures’ action comedy The Fall Guy, available for premium digital rental and purchase starting May 21. Based on the 1980s TV series of the same name, the film stars Ryan Gosling as Colt Seavers, a battle-scarred stuntman who is drafted back into service after a near-career ending accident when Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), the star of a mega-budget studio movie goes missing. On top of that, the movie is being directed by Colt’s ex, Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt).

Rising a spot to No. 5 on the chart was Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, available for regular digital purchase after a premium run. The fifth film in the “Ghostbusters” franchise and the fourth set in the continuity stemming from 1984’s original Ghostbusters, and a sequel to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, finds the team back in business in New York City and facing off against a fear demon that leaves its victims frozen solid.

  1. Civil War conquered the box office and now it’s conquering the digital sphere. It will conquer streaming as well.
