The Walt Disney Studios announced it is making the Pixar animated film Onward available to buy digitally today (March 20) at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET., and will bring the film to Disney+ April 3 in the United States.
The film, about a pair of teenage elf brothers (voiced by Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) in a modern fairy tale world who embark on a mystical quest to spend another day with their late father, premiered in theaters March 6 and earned $61.5 million domestically and $103.1 million worldwide before the global coronavirus pandemic led to massive closures of movie theaters.
“While we’re looking forward to audiences enjoying our films on the big screen again soon, given the current circumstances, we are pleased to release this fun, adventurous film to digital platforms early for audiences to enjoy from the comfort of their homes,” Onward director Dan Scanlon and producer Kori Rae said in a statement.
