November 28, 2022
Global ad-supported VOD revenue from TV shows and movies is projected to reach $243 billion in 2028, an increase of $86 billion from $157 billion in 2022, according to new analysis from Digital TV Research. The London-based firm contends about $17 billion in AVOD revenue will be added in 2023.
The top five countries are projected to command two-thirds of global revenue, exceeding $1 billion in 25 countries by 2028; up from 18 countries in 2022.
The U.S. will remain the dominant territory by some distance. Its share of global revenue is projected to be 42% by 2028, with revenue increasing $33 billion between 2022 and 2028 to reach $102 billion.
“AVOD revenue from TV series and movies will grow faster than SVOD,” analyst Simon Murray said in a statement. “AVOD revenue will reach $91 billion by 2028, up by $52 billion from $38 billion in 2022. SVOD revenue will climb by $29 billion between 2022 and 2028 to $132 billion.”
