Classic 1957 Courtroom Drama ’12 Angry Men’ Gets 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Release From Kino Lorber

Kino Lorber is prepping the 1957 courtroom drama 12 Angry Men, directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Henry Fonda, Jack Klugman, and Lee J. Cobb, for a March 28 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release.
The two-disc set includes a regular Blu-ray Disc and carries a suggested retail price of $39.95. The film is making its 4K Ultra HD debut from a brand-new HDR/Dolby Vision master from a new 4K Scan of the original camera negative.
Bonus features include a new audio commentary by film historian and screenwriter Gary Gerani and a previously recorded audio commentary by film historian Drew Casper. The Blu-Disc includes the 1997 made-for-TV remake of the film, starring Jack Lemmon; a making-of documentary; and the “Inside the Jury Room” featurette.

The film takes place right after the closing arguments in a murder trial, as the 12 members of the jury begin their deliberations. A guilty verdict meaning death for the accused, an inner-city teen. As the dozen men try to reach a unanimous decision while sequestered in a solitary, sweltering room, one juror (Fonda) casts considerable doubt on elements of the case. Personal issues soon rise to the surface, and conflict threatens to derail the delicate process that will decide one boy’s fate.
In addition to Fonda (who also co-produced with writer Reginald Rose), the cast includes Cobb as his main opposition; Ed Begley as a hateful bigot; E.G. Marshall as a cold, logical stockbroker; Jack Warden as a baseball fanatic and Klugman as the disturbed blood-brother to the defendant.
The American Film Institute chose 12 Angry Men as the second-best courtroom drama ever, after 1962’s To Kill a Mockingbird. In 2007, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.”
