‘Captain Marvel’ Commands Disc Sales in June

Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel, distributed by Disney, was No. 1 on the top 10 list of combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales for June 2019 according to the NPD Group’s VideoScan tracking service.

The superhero movie was released June 11, giving it nearly three weeks of sales in the month.

No. 2 was another Disney release, the live-action Dumbo remake, which arrived on disc the last week of the month.

Lionsgate’s A Madea Family Funeral, director Tyler Perry’s final installment of the “Madea” franchise, was No. 3 for the month after being released June 4.

The previous month’s top title, DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, distributed by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, dropped to No. 4.

Rounding out the top five was Universal’s Us, the latest horror film from director Jordan Peele that was released on disc June 18.

Other new releases on the top 10 monthly chart include the animated Wonder Park, from Paramount, at No. 6, and Lionsgate’s Five Feet Apart at No. 10.

Captain Marvel joined the list of the year’s top 10 disc sellers at No. 3.

Warner’s Aquaman remained at No. 1 and Fox’s Bohemian Rhapsody was still No. 2.

Warner’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald slipped to No. 4.

Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse remained at No. 6 while passing Warner’s A Star Is Born, which slipped two spots to No. 7.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World fell out of the top 10.
