‘Candyman’ Tops Redbox Disc Rentals, ‘Jungle Cruise’ Leads on Digital List

Universal Pictures’ Candyman relaunch debuted at No. 1 on Redbox’s disc rental chart and was No. 2 on the Redbox on Demand chart the week ended Nov. 21.

The sequel to the 1992 film of the same name stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as an artist who explores the macabre history of Candyman at the expense of his sanity. It earned $61.2 million at the domestic box office.

The No. 1 title on the Redbox On Demand chart, which tracks digital VOD and sellthrough transactions, was Disney’s Jungle Cruise, the adventure film based on the Disneyland ride of the same name.

The top disc rental the previous two weeks, Disney-owned 20th Century Studios’ Free Guy, dropped to No. 2 on the disc rental chart, which tracks DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals at Redbox’s more than 40,000 red kiosks. Free Guy also dropped to No. 3 on the digital chart after occupying the top spot there for five weeks.

Universal Pictures’ Stillwater remained No. 3 on the disc rental chart but slid a spot to No. 6 on the digital chart.

The No. 4 disc rental was RLJ Entertainment’s Prisoners of Ghostland. The film stars Nicolas Cage as a ruthless bank robber sprung from jail by a wealthy warlord whose adopted granddaughter is missing. Strapped into a leather suit that will self destruct in five days, the bandit sets off to find the missing girl.
