‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Debuts at No. 1 on DVD and Blu-ray Sales Charts
February 16, 2023
Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever easily debuted at No. 1 on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart the week ended Feb. 11.
The superhero sequel, which is distributed by Disney, outsold its closest competitor for the week by a nearly 10-to-1 margin.
That No. 2 seller was Warner’s Black Adam, after having topped the overall disc sales chart for four of the previous five weeks. It was No. 3 on the Blu-ray Disc chart.
The No. 2 Blu-ray Disc seller, and No. 4 on the overall chart, was Warner’s Legion of Super-Heroes, a new direct-to-video animated movie. As it did not receive a standalone DVD release, all of its sales were tallied as Blu-rays — 21% of which were of the 4K Ultra HD edition.

No. 3 on the overall disc sales chart, and No. 4 on the Blu-ray chart, was Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick. No. 5 on both charts was Universal Pictures’ Violent Night.
Blu-ray Disc formats accounted for 69% of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever sales, with 40% from the 4K combo pack and 29% from regular Blu-ray. The original 2018 Black Panther also climbed back onto the charts, at No. 23 overall and No. 11 on the Blu-ray chart.
The Media Play News rental chart for the week ended Feb. 12 had Violent Night back in the top spot, while the previous week’s top rental, Lionsgate’s Mindcage, dropped to No. 2.
Black Adam was the No. 3 rental, followed by a couple of newcomers — Paramount’s High Heat at No. 4, and Warner’s Bones and All at No. 5.
