‘Black Adam’ Takes Top Spot on DVD and Blu-ray Sales Charts for Third Week

Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment’s Black Adam remained No. 1 for a third week on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart the week ended Jan. 21.

The DC superhero film stars Dwayne Johnson as the title antihero, an ancient warrior freed from a 5,000-year imprisonment.

No. 2 on both charts for a third week in a row was Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick.

The next two spots on the overall disc sales chart were taken up by new releases.

No. 3 on the overall disc chart, and No. 11 on the Blu-ray chart, was MGM’s Till, distributed on disc by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. The docudrama about Emmett Till’s mother searching for justice after his murder earned $9 million at the domestic box office.

The No. 4 overall disc seller, and No. 3 on the Blu-ray chart, was Disney-owned Searchlight Pictures’ The Menu, the horror satire about an exclusive restaurant with a shocking menu. The film earned $38.2 million at the domestic box office.

The No. 5 overall disc seller, and No. 10 on the Blu-ray chart, was Warner’s biopic Elvis, which has been on disc since September but is back in the spotlight thanks to awards season, with star Austin Butler garnering multiple nominations for his performance as Elvis Presley.

Rounding out the top five Blu-ray Disc sellers were a pair of catalog titles re-released on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in Steelbook packaging. No. 4 was Paramount’s 2008 monster film Cloverfield, while No. 5 was Shout! Factory’s collector’s edition of John Carpenter’s 1988 sci-fi actioner They Live. They were also the top sellers in the same order on the dedicated 4K Ultra HD chart.
