‘Black Adam’ Debuts in Top Spot on Weekly Vudu Chart

Warner Bros.’ superhero film Black Adam debuted atop the chart of the 10 most-popular films on Fandango’s transactional digital service Vudu the week ended Nov. 27.

The film, based on the DC Comics, became available for premium digital purchase and rental Nov. 22. In the actioner, nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods — and imprisoned just as quickly — Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.

Two other newcomers landed at No. 2 and No. 3 on the Vudu chart.

In the No. 2 spot was Sony Pictures’ historical drama The Woman King, starring Viola Davis. The film, available for digital purchase Nov. 22, is inspired by true events that took place in the kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states of Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Debuting at No. 3 on the chart was Sony Pictures’ comedy Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, also available for digital purchase Nov. 22. In the film, when the Primm family moves to New York City, their young son Josh struggles to adapt to his new school and new friends. That changes when he discovers Lyle — a singing crocodile who loves baths, caviar and great music — living in the attic of his new home.

Rising from No. 6 to No. 4 on the chart was Paramount’s perennial hit Top Gun: Maverick, available for digital rental and on sale for digital purchase. The sequel stars Tom Cruise reprising his role as daring pilot Maverick, who is assigned to train new generation of pilots to complete a difficult mission.

Falling from No. 3 to No. 5 on the chart was the Universal Pictures rom-com Ticket to Paradise, which debuted for premium digital purchase and rental Nov. 8. It stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts as exes who find themselves on a shared mission to stop their lovestruck daughter from making the same mistake they once made.
