‘Birds of Prey’ Tops May Disc Sales; ‘Frozen II’ Remains Year’s Best

Warner’s Birds of Prey was No. 1 on the domestic top 10 list of combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales for May 2020 according to the NPD Group’s VideoScan tracking service.

The latest DC Comics adaptation stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and arrived on disc May 12.

The No. 2 seller in May was Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog, the long-awaited video game adaptation that arrived on disc May 19.

Sony Pictures’ Bloodshot came in at No. 3 for the month. Based on the Valiant Comics character, the film arrived on disc May 5.

Disney’s under-the-radar disc release of Pixar’s Onward came in at No. 4. The animated film was made available through electronic sellthrough in late March and on the Disney+ streaming service in early April after its theatrical run was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic. The disc, which Disney did not promote much at all, arrived May 19.

May’s No. 5 disc seller was Lionsgate’s faith-based drama I Still Believe, a May 5 DVD and Blu-ray release.

Other newcomers on the monthly chart included the May 12 disc of Disney-owned Fox’s The Call of the Wild at No. 6, and Universal’s remake of The Invisible Man at No. 9 following its May 26 disc release.
