Anime Film ‘House of the Lost on the Cape’ Coming to Blu-ray, Digital Sept. 27

Shout! Factory and Eleven Arts have announced the Sept. 27 release of The House of the Lost on the Cape, an anime feature based on the award-winning Japanese novel by Sachiko Kashiwaba.

The film will be available as a Blu-ray + DVD combo pack as well as a digital download.

Directed by Shinya Kawatsura (Non Non Biyori, Kokoro Connect), The House of the Lost on the Cape follows 17-year-old run-away Yui and 8-year-old Hiyori, who lost her family and her voice. They have no place to go when they run into Kiwa, a strange old lady. She offers them a place to stay in a slightly banged-up old house overlooking the sea. Despite joining Kiwa on a whim, the two girls find comfort in Mayoiga, a legendary house, said to look after lost travelers, and the warm hospitality of Kiwa. Both girls’ damaged hearts begin to heal little by little.

Available for the first time in North America, the film will include bonus features such as a special Q&A with director Shinya Kawatsura at the Annecy Festival, and Yui and Kiwa’s secret recipes.

The House of the Lost on the Cape won Best Animation Film at the 76th annual Mainichi Film Awards and was an Official Selection in feature film competition at the prestigious 2022 Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
