‘Adrift,’ ‘Hereditary,’ ‘Destination Wedding’ New to Redbox Charts

Twentieth Century Fox’s Deadpool 2 and Warner’s Tag remained at No. 1 on Redbox’s disc rental and digital charts for the week ended Sept. 10.

Deadpool 2, a superhero spoof that earned $318.5 million in U.S. theaters, topped the Redbox kiosk chart, which tracks DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals, for the second consecutive week.

Tag, a comedy about a group of grown men who spend one month each year playing the game of tag, accomplished the same feat on the Redbox On Demand chart, which tracks digital purchases (EST) and rentals (TVOD).

Tag also repeated at No. 2 on the Redbox disc-rental chart, while on the digital chart Deadpool 2 – which was released digitally two weeks before it came out on DVD and Blu-ray Disc – slipped to No. 3.

Taking its place at No. 2 on the Redbox On Demand chart was Adrift, from Universal Pictures, about two seafaring adventurers who unwittingly sail into a hurricane. The film, with a domestic box office gross of just under $31.5 million, debuted at No. 4 on the disc-rental chart.

Adrift was released digitally on Aug. 21 and on disc two weeks later.

Hereditary, a supernatural horror film from Lionsgate about a family haunted after the death of their grandmother, debuted at No. 3 on the Redbox kiosk chart. The film premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to earn $44 million in U.S. theaters.

Rounding out the top five on the Redbox kiosk chart:  Paramount’s Book Club, which bowed the prior week at No. 3.

On the digital chart, Book Club slipped to No. 4 from No. 3, while the Melissa McCarthy comedy Life of the Party, from Warner, remains at No. 5.

Book Club, with a domestic gross of $68.6 million, is a romantic comedy that stars Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Diane Keaton and Mary Steenburgen as four friends who read Fifty Shades of Grey for their monthly book club, with a pronounced change in how they view their personal relationships.

Universal Pictures’ Destination Wedding, newly released on digital Sept. 7, debuted at No. 7 on the Redbox On Demand chart.
