The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC have announced that because this year’s slate of films continues to be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, next year’s Oscars will be held in March 2022 instead of February.
The 94th Academy Awards ceremony will be held March 27 in its usual home at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. This year’s ceremony was held in Los Angeles’ Union Station.
Next year’s show will air live on ABC.
Once again, films that premiered in drive-ins or on streaming services or PVOD will be eligible, provided they were originally intended for theatrical release.
Movie theaters are reopening, but many are still operating at limited capacities, including those in key markets such as California.
